Accepting my own mortality, and the naturalness of death - the final step in my JW recovery.
by fresh prince of ohio infor people who have a paralyzing fear of dying, to where it seems like it's this horrible, stalking monster, jwism is a powerful sedative.. but really, the idea of living forever, in human form, is nonsense.
living forever isn't about living forever, it's about not dying.. death is natural.
it can be painful, sudden, or both.

What JWism taught me
by fresh prince of ohio inhumans, generally speaking, are immoral and corrupt.. death is not natural.
bad news is good news.. the present life is all for naught.. i cannot trust my own judgment.. the only possible good i can do for another person is to sell them on jwism.. they're out to get me.. humanity will not survive without divine intervention..

Pyschology reveals the comforts of the apocalypse
by fresh prince of ohio inhttp://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/2012/12/18/psychology-reveals-the-comforts-of-the-apocalypse/.
don't know if this was posted here when this article was current (2012).. .
although i have left jwism far behind me, i still live with very strong, sometimes almost unbearable, fears of catastrophic events leading to complete societal breakdown..

breakup guilt
by fresh prince of ohio ini recently broke up with my girlfriend of four years.. she is 40 years old, with health problems, financial problems, little family/friend support, and facing an uncertain future.
i gave her some money.. the guilt i am experiencing right now is absolutely anguishing.
she had very, very high hopes about our relationship and loved me very deeply.

Oh I thought JWs were just a "normal" religion
by fresh prince of ohio ini have found that, since leaving jws, that few "wordly" people seem interested in hearing my escape story (although some certainly have shown great interest).
when i've mentioned that i used to be a jw and that i left, the reaction i've gotten on more than one occasion is a "oh i thought they were just a normal religion", and not only that, it's like they just weren't at all even open to the idea that jws could be a really strange and cultish group.
on these occasions, i felt a little lost for words trying to explain to people just how crazy jwism is, because there's so much crazy to tell about, where do you even start?.

Prophets of Doom (interesting history podcast)
by fresh prince of ohio ina favorite podcast of mine for several years now has been dan carlin's hardcore history.
dan has a real gift for storytelling, and is a serious and humble student of history.. a recent episode (which i still haven't finished) deals with events that transpired in the german city of muenster in the early 1500s, events specifically related to the rise of protestantism and a millenial-apocalyptic fervor (with date setting and everything) that gripped a good chunk of the very, very religious populace, particularly the anabaptists.. the jw parallels are obvious, as you will discover if you decide to give it a listen.. http://www.dancarlin.com//disp.php/hharchive/show-48---prophets-of-doom/luther-reformation-history.

Found this gem in a coffee table book from 1947
by fresh prince of ohio incontext was a discussion of anti-war groups.
the caption for the pic described the jws as "pathetic" (probably reflecting the victorious postwar mood).
outlaw could probably have some fun incorporating this pic into his comments!

Why Hollywood is in love with the end of the world
by fresh prince of ohio infound this interesting - i've often (only half) joked that my viewing of the movie the terminator (which had heavy pre- and post-apocalyptic elements) at age 14 was what led to my becoming a jw later in life.. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50148079n.

missing the JWD glory days
by fresh prince of ohio indon't get me wrong, this forum currently has plenty of interesting discussions and posters, but, for those of you who weren't on the old jwd board in the early-to-mid-00s, man...i'm sorry but you really missed out on the glory years of this forum.
it was really a special, unique place then.
again, not dissing the current, but, that huge exciting wave of ex-jw internet activity that occurred in the early part of this century seems to have leveled off.

breaking up is hard to do
by fresh prince of ohio inbackground: i joined the jws when i was 21, left about 11 years ago.. up until recently, i had never been in a relationship that went longer than a few months.

she's, just, okay.. i've never felt like, oh, i love her so much.
